HLA-B27 and spondyloarthropathy: value for early diagnosis?

چکیده
The seronegative spondyloarthropathy complex The seronegative spondyloarthropathy complex embraces a group of inflammatory rheumatic disorders linked together by certain clinical, laboratory, and radiological manifestations. Clinically, the disorders are characterised by asymmetrical peripheral oligoarthritis and involvement of the sacroiliac joints (table 1). Manifestations in the eyes, mucocutaneous membranes, and genitourinary system not infrequently accompany the often predominant arthritis. The patients lack detectable rheumatoid factors in serum, hence the term "seronegative". Other serum autoantibodies, often found in inflammatory rheumatic diseases, are notably absent in the spondyloarthropathies. Unlike in rheumatoid arthritis, radiological examinations of peripheral joints rarely show destructive changes. However, radiological sacroiliitis is essential for the diagnosis ofmany of these diseases.

Human Leukocyte Antigen B27 in 453 Asian Indian Patients with Seronegative Spondyloarthropathy
Background: Spondyloarthropathies are a group of closely related inflammatory arthritis which involve the axial skeleton and are negative for rheumatoid factor. Objective: This case-control study was conducted to examine HLA- B27 positivity in patients with seronegative spondyloarthritis (SSA) as per ESSG criteria and compare the frequency with healthy controls because a lower positivity is rep...

متن کاملStudying patients with inflammatory back pain and arthritis of the lower limbs clinically and by magnetic resonance imaging: many, but not all patients with sacroiliitis have spondyloarthropathy.
OBJECTIVE Clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data of 170 consecutive patients with inflammatory back pain (IBP) and/or oligoarthritis of the lower limbs were evaluated in a retrospective study. The aim was to determine the frequency of sacroiliitis and spondyloarthropathy (SpA) in this population, and to assess the significance of HLA B27 measurements for diagnosis in early disease. ...
متن کاملHLA B-27 Subtypes in Turkish Patients with Spondyloarthropathy and Healthy Controls
The frequency and the distribution of HLA-B27 subtypes in spondylarthropathy (SpA) patients and controls were investigated in a sample Turkish population. B27 subtyping was performed by PCR-SSP method in two groups: 49 unrelated HLA-B27 positive Turkish patients with the diagnosis of SpA according to the European Spondyloarthropathy Study Group Criteria, and 55 HLA-B27 positive healthy controls...

OBJECTIVE To investigate the nature of osteopenia/osteoporosis in spondyloarthropathy, an inflammatory disorder, using the HLA-B27 transgenic rat model. METHODS HLA-B27 transgenic rats were housed individually and sacrificed at the peak of their disease (8-month-old). The spine and femurs were removed and stored in saline at -20 degrees C until analysis. The bone structure and strength were d...
